Samurai Shodown -- Crystal Dynamics

The best from around the world have gathered for the ultimate battle to see who is the best fighter. Samurai Showdown, the hit arcard fighter from SNK is available for play on your 3DO from Crystal Dynamics with all of the arcade effects, including blood, intact.

I really loved the Neo*Geo version. I really hated this version. Crystal Dynamics should have renamed the game "Samurai Slowdown". They sure didn't forget anything in this conversion: slowdown, less frames of animation, and bad voice digitization. This is a perfect case of being dashed... as in all my hopes were.

This fighter was actually pretty fun for me. Dated, but fun. If you're still into 2-D fighters, this is probably the best one out for the 3DO next to Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The only real problem with this game is the occasional slowdown which seems to occur mostly when you're playing one of the larger characters, or you have two characters fighting together who have companions with them. Play control is pretty good, and I enjoyed the variety of interesting moves available to each character. Graphics are O.K., but not arcade quality by a long shot (at least how I remember the arcade). Sound seems to be similar to how I remember it in the arcade, although the voice samples are very grainy. All in all, an translation, and a good game. If fighters are your thing, give this one a look.
