 The Final Word game review

EarthBound -- Nintendo

A strange force has invaded the Earth and you are the only hope. In EarthBound for play on the Super NES, you are a small boy with a destiny to save the world. Can you live up to the challenge, or is the world doomed to be over-run by evil?

You can't judge a book by its cover. At first looks, I could not believe that Nintendo would put their generally well respected name behind a game which looked, well, pretty bad. However, after several hours of gameplay, the game really grows on you. It is a fairly straight forward (linear) RPG, with a funny story line. Don't forget to call home often! This game is perfect for the younger crowd, or any older gamers who are in for a mild challenge, and like funny story lines.

What a strange RPG. Nintendo has been very impressive lately by releasing diverse games. My nature dictates that I will usually love RPGs -- Earthbound reinforces that simple fact. This game is the strangest console RPG that I have ever played, and I love it! On a graphical note, I personally love the simplicity and especially the whacked-out trippy psychedelic effects in the battle backgrounds. Bottom line: Buy it, Play it, Love it, Do It Now! With Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, and hopefully, Arc the Lad, this may turn out to be a great year for RPG fans. It's about time!

I can't count the number of times, where upon initially seeing this game, that I thought "Wow, what a stinker! What is Nintendo thinking?" Then I finally got a chance to play the game. WOW, what a great game! Sure the graphics aren't all that exciting compared to other games out today (though they are very trippy), but the story and fight engine are right there with the best of RPGs. The other thing I loved about this game is that I didn't have to bother with experience building, and once you get strong enough, weaker enemies run from you rather than bog you down in combat! Once I got started on this game, I couldn't put it down until I solved it... it's just that great. If you consider yourself an RPG fan, you absolutely can't miss this title.

The graphics weren't much, but the story is pretty clever. Very Trippy.
