The Final Word game review
Sega Sports, brings the 3-D rally racing favorite home, straight from the arcades. Drive the excitement in Sega Rally, available for play on the Sega Saturn.
Ferrari Man
Sega is really starting to come out of its hole, and show some graphically impressive titles. Sega Rally is a clean arcade translation, with far better graphics than Daytona. I thought the play-control was good, and the music fair. The biggest drawback in this title is its longetivity factor... It is just too short. If they added several more tracks, or if the ones they had were longer, the game would rate much higher. The two-player mode is a real plus, however.

I'm still having a hard time believing Sega Rally's 3-D engine is this slick. I had almost given up on the 3-D capabilities of the Saturn, but Sega has successfully bought themselves a little more time with this one. Apparently there are four tracks, but only three are immediately selectable. Graphically Sega Rally stomps both Daytona and Cyber Speedway as the 3-D engine is very smooth: almost approaching Ridge Racer quality. The only problems I have with this soft is the annoying announcer and the lack of tracks. Oh well... you didn't expect Sega to get everything right, did you?
R.I.P.
This is without a doubt, the best racing game for the Saturn. Play control is perfect and the music really jams... Sega needs to fire that looser who can't sing from Daytona USA, but nooo... they bring him back to sing the words "Game Over" and "Finish" in this title... (shudder)... The announcer has got to go as well ("long easy right maybe!"), or atleast have a toggle off option. Graphics are quite superb, although I'm starting to get a little concerned with the Saturn, just as I did with the Sega CD, in that we may be seeing the graphical potential of the Saturn fully exploited already. Sure Sega Rally is graphically superior to Daytona, but take a close look, the graphics look better due to some obvious short cuts in background effects which help speed up the frame processing and such... (ie: I didn't notice any pop-up when I played this game.) On another note, I think that between the Saturn and PlayStation, this game currently has one of the best two-player split screen modes of any of the current racing games out. All-in-all I'm impressed, and absolutely recommend this game to anyone who owns a Saturn already. Unfortunately since there are only a few tracks, I still wouldn't push this game as a system seller.
Salamander
Sega Rally is in my opinion the current best arcade-to-home translation on the Saturn. The 3-D engine is far superior to Daytona and sets a new standard for the Saturn. The gameplay is equally excellent. I only wish more Saturn titles were of this caliber.
