Thunderstrike 2 -- USGold/Core

The helicopter gunship from hell has just been unleashed. Guess who the pilot is? USGold's Thunderstrike 2 for the Sony PlayStation, takes helicopter combat action to the extreme. 26 missions await you, including day and night assaults using a wide range of weapons. Your only option is to win.

An excellent sequel to the Sega CD's Thunderstrike. The primary enhancement here is the graphics with the PS replacing the Sega CD's flat sprites with glorious texture mapped polys. The effects are very good with excellent music to help you get past the times with no killing. This game bristles with missions increasing the amount of time you'll spend with it. On the plus side Core didn't feel it necessary to change the most important aspect of the Sega CDs gameplay -- all shooter, no sim makes Thunderstrike 2 a great game.

R.I.P.
Not a sim to be sure, but a good shoot'em-up none-the-less. The game didn't really pull me in for great extended stretches, but I did find it to be a good time killer. Although, if you liked AH3 Thunderstrike, you'll certainly like this sequel. The graphics were pretty good, and the music during play was actually pretty decent -- I found myself getting into a groove with it on a couple of occasions. Control was good, although some of the missile weapons proved to be essentially useless. When you get down to it the game falls under the realm of an arcade flight-shooter, and I would have to recommend it as a weekend rental at most for those of you who like that style of game.
