Some time before Sega was to release Spellcaster in the states, there was talk about billing it as "Phantasy Star 2"... I am glad that plan never came to be. Spellcaster is an odd mish-mash of action, side scrolling, and mild RPG elements. A combination that, as usual, Sega ruined. Compounding the problem of weak gameplay is the awkward magic system and sloppy character control. Although the storyline and graphics can get semi-interesting at times. Even that cannot save the mostly boring heap called Spellcaster.
