 The Final Word game review

The Highlander -- Atari

R.I.P.
Well, I spent a good day on sorting out the playcontrol with this game, and I'm not sure that I am all that excited in I mastered it. First off, if you don't have a memory card, don't even consider buying this game. The shear amount of times you WILL have to restart this game from scratch if you don't have one is total reason alone.

The cinemas were really good, and if you are a fan of the TV cartoon series then this is a good complement. As I said, it took me hours just to be able to get to a point where I could last more than a short while in this game. Traveling around wasn't all that bad, but the real problem was combat. Your initial enemies have swords and you have fists. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that your going to bite it ALOT until you figure our the fine quirks of fighting. Also, you can't just avoid the guys, you really need to take them out so that you can get their written orders along with important maps and food supplies. You do get a sword after a bit, and then life becomes far easier when fighting.

Graphics and sound were good in the game, and I believe that with a memory card you could get a good amount of enjoyment with this title... Although even with a memory card I personally found the game tedious at times. So what's the bottom line? If you are a fan of the TV series and you like beating your head against the wall for a number of hours before you getting to the enjoyable part of a game, go check it out. Otherwise, your best off passing this one by. Not a shining moment in the life of the Jaguar CD, and that's a real shame.
