Axe Battler: A Legend of the Golden Axe -- Sega

Once upon a time, the Golden Axe was known throughout the land as a token of all power. A wise leader realized the potential of this powerful weapon, and hid it to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil. But now, the kingdom has fallen under siege, and as a young adventurer you must retrieve the Golden Axe and restore peace to the land. Axe Battler: A Legend of the Golden Axe is an exciting new role playing game for play on the Sega Game Gear.

Ferrari Man
I found this to be a reasonably rewarding role playing game with many of the standard features of RPGs. Mindful of the overhead views of the NES classic Dragon Warrior. However, what sets this apart are the fight scenes. Here it changes into a side-scrolling action scene--not bad.

Axe Battler is a good RPG for the Game Gear. The game is graphically very good for an RPG. Play control is rather bad until the side-scrolling fighting scenes. I like the way your character has to fight powerful monsters if he wishes to learn a new move. The sound isn't all that great, but its got a few good tunes. It should please role-players and action gamers alike.

R.I.P.
Nice RPG! Average control, although I don't like how everything kills you about instantly... or, at least, killed me. Sound is decent for an RPG and the story line seemed decent enough. I recommend this RPG as a very good buy.

Salamander
A well done RPG, Axe Battler is one for the road. What could be better on a long trip than a portable RPG? The graphics are fair, and the story is entertaining. Axe Battler will take a good bit more dexterity to solve than most other RPGs, however. The side-view battles require fast reaction time and some fighting skills to conquer. Overall, Axe Battler is a nice addition to the Game Gear title library.
