Psychic Force 2012 -- Taito/Acclaim

R.I.P.
I was so excited to see it when it came out, but within moments of turning it on... the love was gone. Ok, I can't hold it in anymore... I can't stand any more fanboy hype over this game. The truth is, the game blew. It blew big time. Graphics were on par for the system, albeit a bit average, sound was ok, but what the hell happened to the gameplay?

Ok, see, I remember playing the first Psychic Force in the arcade, and it was a blast. I thought it was fairly unique in styling, and concept, and I actually enjoyed playing it. I never was able to get into the PlayStation release though because it was so stinking low-res and grainy, while loosing the arcade feel.

...Well, no need to worry, the feel isn't in this game either. Even though it looks pretty, the play control sucks. Close up combat was clunky and felt sluggish, while distance combat frequently disintegrated into a match of who can shoot the other guys shot out of the air faster, while moving around sluggishly. Also, speaking of moving around sluggishly, what's with the crappy character movement controls. This was in no way 3-D. This game felt like I was playing a 2-D fighter where the ground-plane just rotated around all willy-nilly.

I'm not really sure what happened, but if you're looking for a fighting game that involves shooting airborne missile/psychic attacks, go dig up an old copy of DragonBall Z.
