- Dreamcast is a dream...
[ posted by: R.I.P ]- Sorry for the bad pun, I couldn't resist.
- Well, unless you've been under a rock for the last few days, you can't have missed the news that Sega is discontinuing their Dreamcast hardware due to poor sales. Their going to go software only, just as 3DO did so many years ago, with the hopes that it will boost corporate revenue. To be honest, I'm sure it will work. Just look at 3DO's success after they went multi-platform.
- My only criticism has been with their choice to make Virtua Fighter 4 a PS2 exclusive. I really think they should have announced this game as a DC/PS2 release, even if the DC release was going to come later. This move, along with the sudden announcement of discontinuing the hardware has made a lot of gamers knee-jerk mad, just look at the boost in E-Bay auctions of DC systems and their games. Forget getting a new one for $99. If you pick your auction right, you might find a system with games and a memory card for not much more than that.
- While I don't normally post reviews to other publications. I think if you want good coverage of what's happening with this move by Sega. Famitsu on-line has some pretty good coverage at both their home site (in Japanese), and at their global sites (in English: here, here, here, here, here, and here).
- Cheers!
