Sega Genesis Nomad Embarks On It's Debut Voyage

REDWOOD CITY, CA, August 22, 1995 -- Sega of America today announce the introduction of Genesis Nomad, Sega's first portable 16-bit videogame system. The Genesis Nomad is compatible with the library of over 600 Sega Genesis game cartridges.

"Millions of die-hard Genesis fans will now have the convenience of their favorite 16-bit games in the palm of their hands anytime or anyplace," said Tom Kalinske, president and CEO, Sega of America.

The Nomad offers the same quality of graphics and sound previously found only on the original Genesis plug-and-play video game system. Nomad is fully mobile and is also television-adaptable for use as a standard Sega Genesis.

Genesis Nomad will initially be available October 1995 in limited distribution and expand to full distribution by spring 1996. Affordably priced, Nomad will have a suggested retail price of less that $200. This new portable gaming system offers the 16 million plus die-hard Genesis gamers the ultimate "anytime" gaming experience. With an ever-expanding library of Genesis software. Nomad extends the evolution of the industry's best known "core" system.

"Nomad offers the best combination for gamers on the move," said Mike Ribero, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Sega of America. "Portability allows avid gamers to turn downtime, traveling by plane, train, or automobile or just standing in line into entertainment and leisure time."

A completely portable unit which is great for entertainment in transit, Genesis Nomad features a 3 1/4" full color screen, six button control pad for sophisticated game play and uses six AA batteries for up to 3 continuous hours of gaming.

Optional Nomad playing peripherals include an AC adapter to save battery power, a cable for plug-in television play, a rechargeable battery pack called the Nomad PowerBack which allows game play time up to 3 hours, and a car adapter for continuous game play while on road trips. For gamers who enjoy the challenge of head-to-head competition, the Nomad can be used as a portable with an additional Genensis control pad plugged into the port. The Nomad also plugs into the television and can be used like an original Genesis.
